Zahid’s Nine-Wicket Haul and Rasool’s Century Lead Larkana to Victory over Dera Murad Jamali
The Hanif Mohammad Trophy’s opening round concluded across four cities on Monday, showcasing impressive individual batting and bowling performances, including a double century and a five-wicket haul.
Out of the initial round’s matches, five concluded in a draw. However, Larkana secured a significant 274-run victory against Dera Murad Jamali.
The triumph stemmed from a team effort, but Zahid Mehmood’s remarkable nine wickets and Malhar Rasool’s century in the second innings were particularly noteworthy.
Zahid, who has represented Pakistan in four Tests, four ODIs, and one T20I, claimed four wickets for 71 runs in the initial innings. This performance contributed to Larkana dismissing Dera Murad Jamali for a modest 166 after Larkana had posted 311 in their first innings.
The leg-spinner continued his form with a five-wicket haul, culminating in match figures of 9/143.
Rasool, an opening batter, complemented Zahid’s bowling with a rapid century during the second innings.
Rasool’s innings of 119, which included 16 boundaries, enabled Larkana to establish a substantial 476-run target for Dera Murad Jamali.
The Group A contest between Karachi Whites and Hyderabad was defined by several excellent batting displays; Usman stood out with a remarkable double century.
After Hyderabad posted an imposing 637 runs in their first innings, Karachi Whites faced significant pressure.
Usman’s unbeaten 245, featuring 27 fours and five sixes, allowed Karachi to take the lead.
FATA’s right-arm seamer, Sameen Gul, also delivered a notable performance in the Hanif Mohammad Trophy’s first round, securing eight wickets against Rawalpindi.
The 26-year-old claimed four wickets in each innings of the drawn match, placing him second among the leading wicket-takers, just behind Zahid of Larkana.
