Imam-ul-Haq Joins Yorkshire for One Day Cup and County Games
Yorkshire County Cricket Club has officially announced the acquisition of Pakistani opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq as an international player for the rest of the current season.
The seasoned left-handed batter is set to join the team immediately and is anticipated to participate in this week’s match against Surrey in Scarborough.
He will also be available for the Metro Bank One Day Cup and the remaining Rothesay County Championship matches in September.
Imam, the nephew of celebrated Pakistani batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq, boasts a first-class batting average of 43. He recently led Pakistan Television to a victory in the domestic first-class President’s Cup in March.
Gavin Hamilton, Yorkshire’s General Manager of Cricket, voiced his enthusiasm regarding the new addition.
Statement from Gavin Hamilton
- “We’re thrilled to have Imam join us, and that he is available right away,” Hamilton stated.
- “While we were naturally disappointed that Ruturaj couldn’t join the squad, we have an exceptional player of proven international caliber in Imam.”
- “Imam possesses an impressive track record and already has experience with domestic cricket in the UK, which will greatly benefit us during a critical series of fixtures.”
- “We appreciate the speed with which he has arrived in the country, and everyone at the Club is eager to collaborate with him until the end of the season.”
It is important to note that the 29-year-old has recently seen a decline in favor with Pakistan’s national selectors due to a drop in form, leading to his exclusion from recent international tours.
To date, he has played in 24 Test matches for Pakistan, scoring 1,568 runs at an average of 37.33, including nine half-centuries and three centuries.
In ODIs, he has participated in 75 games, accumulating 3,152 runs at an impressive average of 47.04, with nine centuries and 20 half-centuries. His T20I career encompasses two appearances, where he scored a total of 21 runs.
Imam’s last appearance for Pakistan in the 50-over format was during the ODI series against New Zealand in April of this year. His most recent Test appearance was in 2023 against Australia, while his last T20I appearance was in 2019.
