Newcastle United Secure Yoane Wissa as Isak Replacement
Newcastle United has finalized the acquisition of Brentford forward Yoane Wissa for £55 million ($74.30 million). This move comes after Alexander Isak’s transfer to Liverpool earlier in the week.
The club’s interest in the 28-year-old DR Congo international, Wissa, was apparent once Isak communicated his desire to join Liverpool for a reported £125 million.
Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, expressed his satisfaction with Wissa’s arrival, highlighting the striker’s established reputation in the Premier League.
“Yoane is a player we have been tracking for a while, and we are thrilled to have secured his services,” Howe commented. “He offers proven quality in the Premier League, evident not only in his goal-scoring record but also in his valuable contributions to the team.”
Previously, Brentford had declined offers from Newcastle for Wissa, leading to a period of tension between the player and the club.
Yoane Wissa has participated in 137 Premier League matches for Brentford, scoring 45 goals since his arrival from French club Lorient. However, he has remained out of the lineup this season amidst speculation linking him to Newcastle.
Last week, Wissa publicly appealed to Brentford via social media, requesting permission to join Newcastle.
Upon completing the transfer, Yoane conveyed his excitement about joining Newcastle and pledged to give his all for the team.
“I’m truly delighted to be here and sign with one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs,” he stated. “I’m incredibly eager to don the black and white shirt. I have aspirations, I have conviction, and now I will strive to make it all come to fruition. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Despite Isak’s departure, Newcastle had a productive transfer window, securing Wissa, German forward Nick Woltemade, winger Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, midfielder Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa, and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
