Alonso Emphasizes Action Over Promises Upon Real Madrid Arrival
MADRID: Xabi Alonso, the new manager of Real Madrid, conveyed his belief in taking action rather than making empty promises during a press conference held on Monday. This statement comes ahead of his La Liga debut against Osasuna on Tuesday.
Alonso’s arrival at the Bernabeu follows Carlo Ancelotti’s season in 2024/25, which concluded without any trophies.
Madrid’s journey in the Club World Cup concluded with a 4-0 semi-final defeat against Paris Saint-Germain the previous month, marking Alonso’s first competition in charge.
During the pre-match press conference, Alonso stressed his preference for demonstrating capabilities through actions rather than words.
Alonso’s Philosophy
“I focus more on demonstrating through action rather than making pronouncements,” Alonso stated to reporters.
“Making pledges before acting is often unproductive in football. Mere words do not guarantee results. Our objective is to commence this path imminently.
“We are very enthusiastic and eager to channel this energy into the stadium and secure the backing of our supporters.”
Real Madrid aims for improved stability this season, particularly in their defensive lineup, which was an area of concern last season.
Alonso has formed a defense that includes Trent Alexander-Arnold, the England right-back acquired from Liverpool, Alvaro Carrera, a left-back from Benfica, and Dean Huijsen, a centre-back from Bournemouth.
Dani Carvajal has also been named in Real Madrid’s squad to compete against Osasuna, signifying his return after recovering from an ACL injury sustained last season.
Alonso emphasized that Carvajal’s participation is a positive indicator that will benefit the team.
“The players now face strong competition, and I appreciate having two capable players for each position,” Alonso commented.
“There will be instances where I will need to rotate the squad. Carvajal is steadily regaining his peak form, which is extremely advantageous for the team.”
