James Vowles Extends Contract with Williams Racing

James Vowles has formalized a fresh long-term agreement with the Formula 1 team, Williams, to continue as team principal.

Vowles’s association with Williams started in the 2023 season when he took over the leadership position, moving from Mercedes.

The specific duration of Vowles’s previous or current contract remains undisclosed by Williams.

Notably, during Vowles’s time with Williams, the team secured Ferrari race champion Carlos Sainz as a teammate for Alex Albon. The team’s performance in the 2025 season has been remarkable, holding the fifth position in the constructors’ standings.

Vowles has expressed a clear vision for the future, particularly concerning the major regulatory changes expected in 2026, and is pleased to prolong his commitment to Williams.

“I am thrilled to sign a new contract with Atlassian Williams Racing; it has felt like my home since day one,” Vowles commented.

“This legendary team has already created incredible memories, and we share a united goal to build on our heritage and secure World Championships again.

“Over the last couple of years, our efforts have been on strengthening the fundamentals, establishing a base for future achievements.”

Williams Racing chairman, Matthew Savage, also conveyed his enthusiasm regarding Vowles’s contract renewal.

“We are delighted that James has committed his future to Atlassian Williams Racing, staying on course with our shared mission.

“He has contributed substantial experience, dynamism, and strategic direction to revive Williams to its former glory.

“Although the journey is ongoing, the growing momentum at Grove is unmistakable, and we are enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead.”
