McGirt Admits Unfamiliarity with Itauma Ahead of Whyte Fight
Dillian Whyte is scheduled to clash with Moses Itauma, another British boxer, in Saudi Arabia on August 16.
Buddy McGirt, Dillian Whyte’s coach, has confessed that he has not watched Itauma compete, according to reports. McGirt, a seasoned trainer who has worked with boxing legends like Hasim Rahman, Sergey Kovalev, and Arturo Gatti, mentioned that he usually does not review tapes before a fight and that this approach will remain the same for the Itauma bout.
McGirt revealed that he assured Whyte that Itauma would not present anything unexpected. He stated, “I’m going to be completely honest with you; I haven’t seen Moses fight, so I don’t really know what he’s capable of.”
“He has to give it his all. I told Dillian, ‘Let’s be realistic. What can this kid do that you haven’t already experienced?’ But can that kid ask the same thing? Can Dillian surprise this kid with something new?”
Moses Itauma has rapidly gained recognition as a powerful force in boxing, boasting an unblemished record of 12 wins, with 10 victories achieved through knockouts. The 20-year-old is known for his remarkable skills and has drawn comparisons to iconic figures like Mike Tyson from a young age.
McGirt further commented that the specific opponent is irrelevant, as their training methods remain consistent, mirroring those used for a title fight. “We’re training with the intensity of a championship fight, but we aren’t training like we’re up against Clubber Lang or anyone of that level,” McGirt added.
“Moses is a promising young fighter, but we’re putting in the work every day as if we were competing for a title, regardless of whether it’s against him or someone else.”
