Rizwan Dismissed for Duck Against West Indies

TAROUBA: Pakistan’s skipper, Mohammad Rizwan, faced an early exit in the third and decisive ODI against the West Indies, held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Tuesday.

Rizwan, entering the game at the number four position with Pakistan struggling at 8/2 in just under three overs, was unable to handle a sharp in-swinging delivery from Jayden Seales. The ball clipped the off-stump.

The contact was enough to remove the bails, marking Rizwan’s departure for a golden duck, his first in this format of the game.

This marks the third instance of Rizwan being dismissed for zero in his ODI career, with previous occurrences against Australia and South Africa in 2019 and 2021, respectively.

The wicket-keeper now shares the 59th spot on the list of Pakistani batsmen with the most ducks in ODIs, a list headed by all-rounder Shahid Afridi.

His dismissal put Pakistan in further trouble at 8/3 in 2.5 overs, as they pursued a target of 295 runs.

Following his dismissal, Babar Azam managed to add 15 runs alongside Salman Ali Agha for the fourth wicket before he was removed by Seales, which left the touring side at 23/4.

Agha then partnered with Hasan Nawaz, and together they have mustered 27 runs in an unbroken fifth-wicket partnership, taking Pakistan to 50/4 in 17 overs when this report was updated.

After being asked to bat first, the West Indies posted a significant 294/6, boosted by a remarkable sixth-wicket partnership between captain Shai Hope and Justin Greaves.

The pair rescued the West Indies from a precarious 184/6 in 41.2 overs, contributing 110 runs in 50 balls.

Hope led the scoring for the hosts with an unbeaten 120 from 94 deliveries, which included 10 fours and five sixes, while Greaves remained not out on 43 from 24 balls.

Roston Chase (36) and Evin Lewis (37) also made notable contributions.
