West Indies Announces Squad for ODI Series Against Pakistan
Cricket West Indies (CWI) revealed its 15-member squad on Wednesday for the upcoming three-game ODI series against Pakistan. The matches are scheduled to take place in Trinidad from August 8 to 12.
The West Indies team has undergone just a single alteration since their tour of the UK earlier in the year. Right-arm fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who was previously rested for the T20I series, will remain on the sidelines to manage his workload.
Romario Shepherd will take Joseph’s place, rejoining the ODI team after being absent from the matches against England and Ireland earlier this year.
West Indies head coach Daren Sammy voiced his optimism that the selected team would maintain its positive run, while also recognizing the strength of the Pakistani side.
Sammy also noted that the series provides a chance for his team to secure automatic qualification for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2027.
“Pakistan offers a different kind of test as we aim for direct qualification for the 2027 World Cup,” Sammy stated in a release from CWI.
“While qualification is our main focus, keeping a winning attitude and team unity is key for long-term success.
“The coming games against higher-ranked teams like Pakistan give us important chances to gain ranking points and improve our position before the World Cup.”
All three ODIs in the series will be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad, on August 8, 10, and 12.
West Indies squad for ODI series against Pakistan: Shai Hope (c), Jewel Andrew, Jediah Blades, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales and Romario Shepherd.
