West Indies End 34-Year ODI Series Drought Against Pakistan
The West Indies cricket team triumphed over Pakistan with a 2-1 series victory, marking the end of a 34-year wait for an ODI series win against the visiting side.
The deciding match, held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba this Tuesday, saw the hosts claim the series.
This victory represents the first ODI series win for the West Indies against Pakistan since their last triumph, after enduring ten consecutive series losses. It is regarded as a significant milestone for West Indies cricket.
The last instance of West Indies securing an ODI series victory against Pakistan occurred in November 1991, during their tour of Pakistan.
That series featured prominent captains Richie Richardson and Imran Khan, with the West Indies securing a 2-0 victory, and one match ending in a tie.
Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies saw them secure the three-match T20I series 2-1, while the West Indies team showed dominance in the 50-over format.
Series Decider
In the final match, the West Indies achieved a total of 294-6 in their allotted 50 overs. Captain Shai Hope was instrumental, scoring 120 runs from 94 balls, including 10 fours and five sixes.
Justin Greaves provided crucial support, contributing 43 runs off 24 balls, forming a 110-run partnership. Additional contributions from Evin Lewis (37) and Roston Chase (36) strengthened the innings.
Pakistan’s response faltered, with the team being dismissed for just 92 runs in 29.2 overs, resulting in a 202-run defeat.
Salman Ali Agha, the all-rounder and captain, scored the most runs with 30 from 49 deliveries, while Mohammad Nawaz remained unbeaten with 23 runs.
Hasan Nawaz added 13 runs, but the top order struggled, with Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, captain Mohammad Rizwan, Hasan Ali, and Abrar Ahmed all failing to score.
