West Ham United Acquires Manteus Fernandes
West Ham United has officially announced the acquisition of Portuguese midfielder Manteus Fernandes from Southampton on a five-year contract. The Premier League team confirmed the agreement on Friday.
Southampton representatives mentioned that the 21-year-old Fernandes, who participated in 36 Premier League matches for the club before its relegation, had agreed to terms for a transfer to West Ham valued at over 40 million pounds ($54.04 million).
Expressing his excitement, Fernandes conveyed his happiness in joining what he considers a prominent club.
“I’m very happy to be here and to represent West Ham,” Fernandes stated. “This is a significant advancement for me.”
“This is a huge and massive Club, with a great project, fantastic stadium, and wonderful city.”
He further mentioned his desire to not only participate but also relish playing football, emphasizing his intention to display quality on the field.
“I aim to play football and derive pleasure from it, focusing on skillful play rather than just running and scoring.
“I believe dedicating full effort every day is paramount.”
After developing through Sporting’s youth setup, Fernandes spent a year on loan at Estoril, a Primeira Liga side, prior to his move to Southampton for approximately $20 million last year.
Head Coach Graham Potter complimented the young player’s abilities, noting that Mateus is having a promising career.
“Mateus is an emerging talent who has demonstrated noteworthy advancement early in his career, and we are very pleased to have completed his signing,” Potter commented.
