Waseem Breaks Sixes Record in T20I Clash Against Afghanistan
SHARJAH: In a thrilling tri-nation series match against Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday, UAE’s captain, Muhammad Waseem, distinguished himself by setting a new record for the most sixes hit by a captain in T20 internationals, surpassing India’s Rohit Sharma.
Waseem delivered an explosive innings, scoring 67 runs from just 37 balls, which included six remarkable sixes and four fours. He eclipsed Sharma’s previous record by hitting consecutive sixes off Mujeeb-ur-Rahman in the third over.
Notably, the opening batsman achieved this milestone in only 54 innings, while it took Sharma 62 innings to reach his previous record.

Despite Waseem’s spectacular performance, the UAE team fell short of Afghanistan’s target of 189 runs. They were limited to 150-8 in their allotted 20 overs, resulting in a 38-run defeat.
Earlier in the match, Afghanistan scored 188-4 after being sent in to bat. Sediqullah Atal led the scoring with a rapid 54 off 30 balls, supported by Ibrahim Zadran, who contributed a steady 63 off 40 balls, including four sixes and three fours.
With this victory, Afghanistan has moved up to second place in the points standings. Pakistan currently leads the table with two wins from two games, while the UAE is still seeking their first win. Afghanistan will now play Pakistan in their upcoming match at the same venue on Tuesday.
