Warriors Triumph Over Patriots Despite Afridi and Shah’s Bowling
BASSETERRE: The Guyana Amazon Warriors secured a five-wicket victory against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Sunday in Basseterre, despite commendable bowling performances from Pakistani talents Naseem Shah and Abbas Afridi.
After winning the toss, Warriors captain Imran Tahir opted to bowl. The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots posted a total of 153/8 in their 20 overs.
Patriots’ Innings
Opener Andre Fletcher spearheaded the batting, scoring a rapid 60 off 41 deliveries, which included five sixes and one four. Jyd Goolie contributed 24 runs from 15 balls, hitting one six and two fours.
Rilee Rossouw added 12 runs, and Abbas Afridi scored 10. However, the remaining batsmen struggled, with seven players failing to reach double digits.
Warriors’ Bowling Effort
For the Warriors, Dwaine Pretorius stood out, claiming 3/43 in his four overs. Imran Tahir supported well with 2/29 in his four overs, including a maiden over.
Shamar Joseph, Romario Shepherd, and Gudakesh Motie each took one wicket.
Warriors’ Chase
The Guyana Amazon Warriors successfully chased down the target of 154 in 17.2 overs with five wickets remaining.
Opener Ben McDermott propelled the chase with a striking 75 off 39 balls, hitting four sixes and ten fours.
Middle-order batsman Shai Hope sealed the victory with a crucial 56 off 39 balls, which featured two sixes and five fours.
Patriots’ Bowlers
Abbas Afridi was the pick of the bowlers for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, taking 2/24 in his two overs. Naseem Shah bowled three overs, conceding 19 runs and taking one wicket. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Waqar Salamkheil also claimed a wicket each.
