Warriors Secure Victory Over Rockets in Game 1

HOUSTON: Stephen Curry’s impressive 31 points, combined with Jimmy Butler III’s 25 points in his debut playoff appearance for the Golden State Warriors, propelled their team to a 95-85 win against the Houston Rockets in Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs first round. The match took place at the Toyota Center on Sunday.

Curry showcased his accuracy, making 12 of 19 field goals, which included five successful three-pointers. He also managed to secure six rebounds. Butler, a recent addition from the Miami Heat in February, made a significant contribution with seven rebounds and six assists during his first postseason game with the Warriors.

The Warriors established a solid lead of 13 points by the end of the first half and further increased it to 23 points in the third quarter. However, the Rockets, who are seeded second, rallied to narrow the gap to 69-60 as the fourth quarter began. Curry then made a critical three-pointer, extending Golden State’s advantage to 82-75 with approximately six minutes remaining in the game.

Houston managed to reduce the deficit to just four points after Fred VanVleet scored a three-pointer. Nevertheless, Moses Moody responded, widening the lead to seven points at 91-84, which ultimately helped the Warriors secure their victory.

Despite the defeat, Alperen Şengün stood out for Houston, scoring 26 points and contributing nine rebounds and one assist.

Coach Steve Kerr commented, “(Curry) executed some outstanding plays and, along with Jimmy, carried our offense.”
He further stated, “I am fortunate to coach such talented individuals…Players determine the outcome of games, and our role is to provide them with support where we can.”
Notably, the Rockets dominated in offensive rebounds, surpassing the Warriors with a 22-6 advantage. However, this was insufficient to counterbalance Golden State’s effective shooting and pivotal plays.

“I believe we are capable of performing at a higher level,” said Green of the Rockets.

“The encouraging aspect is that I don’t think we performed well at all,” he added.

Game 2 of this best-of-seven series is scheduled to occur in Houston on Thursday.
