Viv Richards Lauds PSL’s Role in Fostering Talent and Providing Thrilling Cricket

LAHORE: Sir Vivian Richards, the celebrated West Indian cricketer, has praised the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for its expert setup and welcoming ambiance, stating it feels like his preferred cricketing destination.

The 73-year-old icon has been a part of the PSL since its establishment, serving as a guide for the Quetta Gladiators.

In an interview given to a local digital platform on Saturday, he remarked, “The PSL holds a special place for me. The setting, the individuals involved, the team itself—everything harmonizes perfectly. Remarkably, even after a decade, it retains that initial spark,” he expressed with appreciation.

Richards, a significant figure in West Indies’ World Cup victories of 1975 and 1979, noted the league’s enhanced reputation and its ongoing delivery of captivating cricket.

“The PSL has presented us with electrifying contests and has been vital in cultivating emerging Pakistani talent. This league merits greater worldwide recognition,” he commented.

Renowned for his aggressive batting style, Richards pondered how he might have performed in the modern cricket landscape.

“Considering the advancements in bat technology, I believe I would have been even more formidable. The T20 format would have ideally suited my playing approach,” he stated.

He also pointed out the advantages that contemporary white-ball cricket offers to batsmen, particularly with the employment of two new balls in ODIs.

“Spectators attend matches anticipating powerful hits, and the sport is progressing in that direction,” he added.

Regarding the Gladiators’ current season, Richards remains hopeful.

“We are building strength, and our objective is to compete fiercely and regain our victorious momentum. Our aspiration is to advance to the final and reclaim the championship,” he concluded.
