Liverpool Edges Out Newcastle in a Thrilling 3-2 Victory
Liverpool’s captain, Virgil van Dijk, has expressed his admiration for Rio Ngumoha’s ‘dream debut’ in the Premier League. The young player played a crucial role, netting a late-game-winning goal against Newcastle United on Monday.
Ngumoha, entering the match as a substitute, scored a remarkable goal in the final moments of stoppage time. This feat marks him as the fourth-youngest scorer in the league’s history and the youngest ever to score for Liverpool, securing a 3-2 victory against Newcastle.
Van Dijk lauded the young talent, calling it a ‘dream debut’ and shared his happiness for the rising star.
“It’s a dream debut for him. The technique was perfect. We maintained composure until the end, aiming to find the correct approach to score, and we achieved it. I am extremely happy for Rio,” stated Van Dijk.
Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, also commended Ngumoha, acknowledging the exceptional goal scored by the 16-year-old.
“It was a superb goal from a 16-year-old,” Slot remarked.
He further added that, considering his young age, the teenager demonstrates excellent finishing skills.
“It was a significant opportunity. He possesses remarkable finishing ability for someone his age. The power behind his shot is rarely seen.
“He is very self-assured, and his goal isn’t merely a stroke of luck; he is a genuinely talented finisher for his age.”
With this victory, Liverpool joins Arsenal and Spurs at the top of the league table, all with six points from their initial two matches. Meanwhile, Newcastle remains without a win, holding only one point and facing increasing concerns about injuries, further complicated by uncertainties surrounding Isak’s future.
