Usyk’s Team Reacts to Dubois’ Pre-Fight Party
Sergey Lapin, a director within Oleksandr Usyk’s team, has commented on reports that Daniel Dubois held a party prior to his defeat against Usyk, according to international media sources.
Usyk secured a fifth-round knockout victory over Dubois at Wembley Stadium on July 19, successfully defending his title as the undisputed heavyweight champion.
Dubois received immediate criticism from the boxing community for his delayed arrival at Wembley Stadium compared to Usyk.
Reports later emerged indicating that Daniel Dubois’s father organized a party at their residence just hours before the match.
The decision to host a large gathering immediately preceding such a significant fight drew heavy criticism from many within the boxing world.
In an interview, Lapin voiced his disapproval of the pre-fight festivities, suggesting that the optimal preparation involves a small, close-knit circle rather than a party atmosphere.
“I believe they were fully aware of their actions. It’s likely their team has a strong understanding of Daniel’s psychology,” Lapin stated.
“While personality types vary, most fighters benefit from minimal external interaction before a match. Being around unfamiliar faces can deplete energy and impair focus.”
“The most effective way to prepare involves a tight circle of the team and close associates, helping to conserve energy and maintain mental focus.”
However, Dubois’ trainer, Don Charles, defended his fighter in an exclusive interview, noting that a similar approach was used before Dubois’ victory over Anthony Joshua.
