Usman Wazeer Set for WBC OPBF Silver Welterweight Championship
Pakistani boxer Usman Wazeer is set to face Indonesian fighter Ferdinandus for the WBC OPBF Silver Welterweight Championship in Bangkok at the World Siam Stadium on August 30.
With a spotless record of 16 wins and no losses, Wazeer will encounter a formidable opponent in Ferdinandus, a former WBC Asian Champion boasting 36 victories out of 54 fights, including 18 knockouts.
The contest holds extra importance for Wazeer, marking the first time a Pakistani boxer’s match will be broadcast live across 168 nations via a major sports network.
Wazeer’s previous match saw him secure a Technical Knockout (TKO) against India’s S. Eswaran in the first round, reinforcing his prominence in boxing.
The anticipated bout between Wazeer and Eswaran, amplified by the historic sporting rivalry between Pakistan and India, represented Wazeer’s 16th professional appearance.
The 23-year-old extended his undefeated streak to 16-0, concluding the fight within the first round.
Known as the “Asian Boy,” Wazeer has gained recognition in the boxing scene, having previously claimed titles such as the World Youth Title, Asian Title, and Middle East Title.
His accomplishments have garnered global attention and brought pride to Pakistan and his home region of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Following his victory over Eswaran, Usman Wazeer conveyed gratitude and a message promoting unity.
He also addressed social media interest in the match, appealing to fans to encourage peace.
“I saw posts comparing this to an India-Pakistan war. I request both nations to embrace peace. Let sports unite us, not divide us,” he stated.
