Alcaraz Clinches Second US Open Title, Invites Curry for Golf
Following his recent US Open victory, Carlos Alcaraz has extended an invitation to NBA icon Stephen Curry for a friendly golf match.
Alcaraz secured his second US Open title by defeating the defending champion, Jannik Sinner, with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 on Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Curry, who attended the match alongside his wife, mentioned receiving an invitation from Alcaraz. He shared that the message from the US Open champion was quite impressive.
The message stated, “Let’s arrange a golf outing. I’ll even give you a few strokes as a handicap.”
Curry responded positively, praising the 22-year-old’s self-assurance and sense of humor.
He remarked, “That’s quite a statement from the US Open champ. He definitely has game.”
Alcaraz has actively pursued golf since 2020, starting with practice at driving ranges before advancing to complete courses. He finds the sport a relaxing escape from the pressures of tennis.
“I began playing in early 2020. I simply enjoy it. I used to hit balls at the driving range when I was very young. I liked it, but since 2020, I started playing more frequently, going onto the course and playing several holes. I just fell in love with golf,” Alcaraz stated.
The Spaniard also commented on the tranquility he experiences on the golf course.
“I started playing more and more. I saw myself improving, which further motivated me to play golf. I feel incredibly peaceful when I’m out on the golf course,” he expressed.
With his triumph in New York, Alcaraz has regained the world No. 1 ranking, surpassing Sinner.
Notably, his next scheduled appearance is at the Laver Cup in San Francisco later this year.
