Alcaraz Reveals Story Behind Buzz Cut Following Fan Reactions
Carlos Alcaraz addressed the buzz surrounding his new haircut at the US Open, attributing it to a mishap by his brother, according to reports. The Spanish tennis star moved on to the US Open’s second round after defeating American Reilly Opelka in straight sets at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The tennis community has shown diverse reactions to Alcaraz’s significantly shorter hairstyle. During an on-court interview, Alcaraz directly engaged the crowd, inquiring about their opinion on his new look, which was met with enthusiastic cheers.
“I’ve got to ask the people if they like the new haircut or not,” Alcaraz stated, further asking, “Do you like it, guys? I think they like it.”
However, not everyone is a fan. Frances Tiafoe, a friend and competitor of Alcaraz, jokingly described the haircut as “terrible.”
“It’s definitely terrible,” Tiafoe quipped. “He’s my guy, though. It’s funny, I looked at him and I was like, ‘I guess you’re aerodynamic’. I don’t know who told him that it’s good. I don’t know who told him to do that, but it’s terrible.”
Alcaraz playfully countered Tiafoe’s statement, suggesting that Tiafoe was insincere and had previously expressed approval of the haircut.
“Frances is lying. Frances is lying. No, come on. Yeah, I saw the video. He showed up here saying that it is terrible. I know he’s lying. I know he likes the haircut,” Alcaraz responded.
“He like it. He told me. So no, not hear anything about coming from his mouth.”
Alcaraz explained the story behind the haircut after his victory over Opelka, saying that it was a simple trim that took an unexpected turn.
“It was just I felt like my hair was really long already, and before the tournament I just really wanted to get a haircut,” he explained. “Suddenly, my brother just… he misunderstood with the machine. He just cut it. Then, you know, the only way to fix it is just shave it off. It’s just what he came, this haircut.”
