LA 2028 Unveils Venue Plan Featuring Iconic Locations and Debut of Squash
LOS ANGELES: Organizers have announced that the 2028 Olympic Games will utilize a variety of Los Angeles landmarks, including a renowned Hollywood studio lot and the famous Venice Beach. The event is also set to feature the Olympic debut of squash.
LA28 has released an updated list confirming venues for several sports, including surfing, triathlon, baseball, cricket, and squash.
Universal Studios is slated to host squash, with matches taking place on Courthouse Square. This mock-up town square has appeared in well-known movies such as “Back to the Future” and “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
Venice Beach will serve as the venue for the triathlon, moving from its originally planned location in Long Beach. Additionally, it will be the starting point for both the men’s and women’s marathons, as well as the cycling road races.
Cricket, returning to the Olympics after more than a century, will be played at a newly constructed venue in Pomona, located east of Los Angeles. Initial reports had suggested New York as a potential location for cricket events.
The surfing competitions will be held at Trestles Beach in San Clemente, a coastal town approximately 61 miles (98 kilometers) from Los Angeles. Trestles is highly regarded as a top surfing destination in California, known for its consistent waves.
Dodger Stadium, home to the Los Angeles Dodgers, will host baseball, continuing its Olympic legacy from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
LA28 chief executive Reynold Hoover stated that they have promised an incredible Olympic Games and are sharing the plan to make it a reality. He added that the venue plan aims to bring communities together to celebrate the Games, showcasing exciting sports at world-class stadiums, famous beaches, and temporary structures.
Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass noted that the announced venue plan will bring the Games to all parts of the city. She said that from the Sepulveda Basin to Venice Beach, the city’s neighborhoods and hidden gems will be on display for everyone to experience.
Other venues include Santa Anita Park for equestrian events and Anaheim’s Honda Center for volleyball.
