Akmal Voices Disappointment Over Zulqarnain’s Conduct

KARACHI: Pakistani Test cricketer Umar Akmal has expressed his disappointment, alleging that Zulqarnain Haider has persisted in the same pattern of behavior following his recovery from a serious illness.

During an appearance on a local television program, the middle-order batsman stated that he considered sending a legal notice to the former wicket-keeper but decided against it due to Haider’s financial difficulties.

Akmal also mentioned that he was among the first to visit Zulqarnain while he was suffering from his ailment and offered financial support.

He asserted that despite his act of kindness, Zulqarnain has carried on with the same behavior, though he insisted he holds no ill will towards anyone.

“I harbor no resentment towards anyone. I could have pursued legal action, but I chose not to because I was mindful of his economic circumstances,” Akmal stated.

“I let it go. As a cricketer, and being his junior, I was among the first to visit him when he was in need. My wife was the primary motivator for me to take that step.

“Recently, after his recovery, he has seemingly reverted to his previous conduct, which reflects on his character. However, I choose to view it positively.”

In 2022, Umar Akmal reconciled with Zulqarnain by visiting him at his home during his illness, despite Zulqarnain’s earlier accusations of career sabotage.

Zulqarnain’s cricket career was marred by controversy after he abruptly left the national team during a tour in Dubai in 2010. Although he returned to domestic cricket, he was unable to secure a spot in the national team again.
