Felder Criticizes Topuria’s Avoidance of Tsarukyan Fight

UFC analyst Paul Felder has publicly criticized Ilia Topuria for his recent statements regarding a potential fight against Arman Tsarukyan, a top-ranked contender in the lightweight division, according to various reports.

Topuria’s stock has risen dramatically in the MMA world after his impressive victory over Charles Oliveira in June, where he secured the lightweight title.

With an unblemished record of 17 wins and no losses, Topuria’s ascent from the featherweight division was marked by significant wins against formidable opponents like Josh Emmett and Bryce Mitchell.

This victory placed Topuria among a select group of fighters who have captured UFC titles in multiple weight classes.

Following his win, Ilia Topuria engaged in a face-off with Paddy Pimblett in the octagon, despite Tsarukyan holding the number one contender position. Topuria also indicated a preference to vacate his title rather than compete against Tsarukyan.

During a recent podcast appearance, Felder voiced his disapproval of Topuria’s reluctance to fight Tsarukyan, who is currently ranked second in the lightweight division.

Felder stated, “The guy is the top contender. To suggest relinquishing the belt instead of fighting him is a bit much.”

He further added, “In today’s fighting landscape, many top-tier fighters seem eager to switch weight classes and avoid certain matchups.”

Felder concluded, “That’s not the way it should be… If you truly believe you’re the best, then prove it by facing all challengers. I dislike this trend of avoiding tough fights.”
