Pakistan Concludes Pool Play at FIVB Volleyball U19 World Championship
TASHKENT: Pakistan’s impressive run at the FIVB Volleyball U19 World Championship faced a setback with a 3-2 loss to Argentina in their final group stage encounter on Monday.
Despite this result, Pakistan secured the top spot in Pool A due to a superior set average over Argentina. The set scores were tightly contested, with Argentina prevailing 24-26, 25-18, 25-21, 16-25, and 15-11.
Pakistan had previously clinched a spot in the Round of 16 and is now set to compete against the fourth-placed team from Pool C in the knockout stage on Tuesday.
During the match against Argentina, Pakistan demonstrated remarkable defensive capabilities, achieving 62 successful receptions and 54 digs.
The team also capitalized on their serving, earning three direct points and compelling 24 errors from their opponents, a notable improvement compared to the 20 errors forced by Puerto Rico.
Prior to this match, Pakistan had showcased an unblemished record in the group stage. On Saturday, they secured a decisive 3-0 victory against Turkiye, with set scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-19, marking their fourth consecutive win.
In the game against Turkiye, team captain Yahya delivered an outstanding performance, contributing 14 points, with 13 originating from attacks. Saud emerged as the top scorer with 16 points.
Ajmal and Muhtad added seven and five points, respectively, highlighting the team’s offensive strength.
Pakistan asserted dominance in critical statistical categories against Turkiye, outscoring them 42-34 in attack points, securing 10 blocks compared to Turkiye’s six, and exhibiting enhanced service efficiency with two aces.
On the defensive end, the team recorded 58 digs and displayed a high level of reception proficiency.
