Trump Leads Murphy in World Championship Clash
Top-seed Judd Trump established a 5-3 advantage against Shaun Murphy in their round-of-16 match at the Crucible Theatre on Sunday during the World Championship.
Trump demonstrated resilience, recovering from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to claim the final three frames of the session.
However, in the eighth frame, Trump experienced a setback, missing a chance to secure a century break when he reached 98.
This season, Trump has achieved 98 century breaks and remains in contention for a £100,000 bonus if he attains one hundred before the tournament concludes.
Murphy initiated the match by securing the first frame with a 75 break and then extended his lead. Trump, despite a slow start, responded by winning two successive frames, leveling the score at 2-2.
Murphy regained control with a 103 break in the subsequent frame, but Trump showcased his skill by winning the following three frames.
Trump is scheduled to play an additional eight frames later, with the match resuming before the final session on Monday.
Only two players have previously reached one hundred century breaks in a single season: Trump, with 103 in 2019-20, and Neil Robertson in 2013-14.
In other news, Zhao Xintong of China secured his first-ever quarter-final berth by defeating Lei Peifan 13-10.
