Pollard’s Blistering Knock Secures Player of the Match
TAROUBA: Kieron Pollard’s dynamic performance, highlighted by his explosive batting, alongside Mohammad Amir and Usman Tariq’s impactful bowling, propelled Trinbago Knight Riders to a 12-run victory against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in Monday’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match held here in Tarouba.
After St Kitts captain Jason Holder chose to field first, his decision proved costly as Trinbago amassed a formidable 179/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Pollard stole the show with his bat, unleashing a rapid 65 off a mere 29 balls, decorated with eight towering sixes and a pair of fours.
Captain Nicholas Pooran contributed significantly, scoring 52 from 38 deliveries, which included three sixes and four boundaries.
For St Kitts, Holder spearheaded the bowling attack with figures of 2/25, while Kyle Mayers, Navin Bidaisee, and Ashmead Nedd each managed to secure one wicket. Naseem Shah bowled economically but remained wicketless, conceding only 25 runs in his spell of four overs.
In their chase of 180, St Kitts stumbled despite promising innings from their top order. Opener Andre Fletcher fought hard for his 67 off 54 balls, hitting two sixes and six fours, while Evin Lewis added a quickfire 42 from 25 balls, comprising four sixes and a four.
However, the remaining batsmen failed to provide sufficient support, leaving the Patriots stranded at 167/6 after their 20 overs.
Trinbago’s bowlers maintained tight control, with Nathan Edward claiming impressive figures of 3/30 in 3.2 overs. Amir was equally effective, taking 2/29, while Usman chipped in with 1/32 from his four overs.
Ultimately, Pollard’s explosive innings was the difference-maker, earning him the well-deserved Player of the Match award.
