Aspinall Alleges Jones Seeks Substantial Compensation for Fight

Tom Aspinall stated on Sunday that Jon Jones, the current heavyweight titleholder, is unwilling to risk a defeat unless he receives significant financial remuneration.

Discussions for a possible contest between Aspinall and Jones have been ongoing, with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) CEO Dana White confirming its likelihood later in the year.

Following Jones’s successful title defense against Stipe Miocic in November 2025,

Jones indicated that he expected a considerable sum before committing to his next fight, thereby prolonging negotiations for a title unification bout with Aspinall.

Aspinall commented on the delayed negotiations, stating that Jones seemingly wants guaranteed payment commensurate with the risk involved.

“[Jones] doesn’t want to take the risk at the moment. I actually have a meeting with tonight about it. So we’ll find out what happens tonight, believe it or not… Me personally, I can’t do anything. I think it’s just down to money, I think on his side. So, I will fight whenever, wherever he wants, but it’s down to money I think.”

Aspinall acknowledged Jones’s capabilities as a fighter but suggested that Jones would be unable to withstand his power if they were to fight in the near future.

“[Jones’] got a lot of miles on the clock and he’s fighting one of the most concussive punchers in UFC history. And, I just think I can exploit it. Like, I think to get out the way of me for 25 minutes at this point in his career without getting hit once, and that’s all I need is one, I think that’s going to be very difficult for anybody.”
