Arshdeep Singh Gains Maiden Test Call-up But Injury Sidelines Him
Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh disclosed on Sunday that he has been receiving guidance from Mohammed Siraj to enhance his performance in red-ball cricket. He also expressed his commitment to performing optimally in the upcoming Asia Cup.
Arshdeep mentioned that he consults Siraj for advice and integrates his suggestions as practical techniques.
“In Test cricket, specifically red-ball cricket, there are periods when the game becomes monotonous. Often, the ball’s effectiveness diminishes in the session following lunch. I spoke with Siraj, and he shared that maintaining enjoyment during this phase is crucial for success in red-ball cricket. I found this tip particularly valuable,” he elaborated.
Arshdeep stated that he has been training diligently in recent months and aims to meet expectations in the forthcoming matches.
“Over the past couple of months, I have dedicated significant time to training, bowling, and focusing on strength and conditioning. My body feels robust even after 15–17 overs, and the ball release feels good. Although wickets haven’t been frequent, I am confident they will come,” he noted.
When questioned about maintaining motivation while being benched in England, he responded, “When you’re not actively playing, the focus shifts to pushing your boundaries. This involves more bowling, intensified strength training, and comprehensive workouts, ensuring readiness and peak fitness for any opportunity.”
Arshdeep underscored the significance of adaptability, asserting that one should relish playing cricket and adjust to varying circumstances.
“Immediately after the last Test at The Oval, I began practicing with a white ball. Whether it’s a red, white, or pink ball, enjoying the game is key. The goal is to bowl extensively and adapt swiftly to the situation, the wicket conditions, and the weather,” he added.
Arshdeep’s last competitive appearance was during IPL 2025, where he emerged as Punjab Kings’ leading wicket-taker with 21 wickets across 17 matches.
He secured his first Test call-up for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and was set to debut in the fourth Test but was sidelined due to a hand injury.
Notably, India’s Asia Cup journey commences on September 10 against UAE, followed by matches against Pakistan on September 14 and Oman on September 19, leading up to the Super Four stage starting on September 20.
