Williams Secures Mega Deal with Thunder
All-NBA forward Jalen Williams and the Oklahoma City Thunder have reportedly reached an agreement on a five-year rookie extension. According to various media outlets, the contract could reach a maximum value of $287 million.
Williams is now the third player from the Thunder’s championship-winning team to land a significant contract extension after their recent NBA Finals victory.
The 24-year-old has become recognized as one of the league’s top perimeter defenders, utilizing his extensive wingspan to disrupt passing lanes, prevent drives, and protect the rim.
With Williams’ deal nearing completion, Thunder owner Clay Bennett has committed a total of $822 million to the team’s core players: Williams, NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Chet Holmgren.
Earlier in the week, Gilgeous-Alexander officially inked a four-year, $285 million extension. Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, secured a five-year, $250 million extension on the same day.
Williams, selected 10th overall in the 2022 draft, experienced a successful 2024-25 season, earning All-Star recognition and a spot on the NBA All-Defensive Team.
He and Gilgeous-Alexander guided the Thunder to their first NBA championship, capturing the Larry O’Brien Trophy the previous month.
In the NBA Finals, Williams averaged 23.6 points per game, contributing significantly to the Thunder’s historic title win. During the playoffs, he posted averages of 21.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists, despite playing with a torn tendon in his right wrist that necessitated surgery post-championship.
