Thompson Shines with 25 Points as Rockets Soar
HOUSTON: The Houston Rockets bolstered their playoff aspirations, seizing a 3-2 series advantage after a 120-108 victory over the Golden State Warriors in Game 5 at Toyota Center on Thursday. The Rockets delivered an impressive performance marked by potent offense and tenacious defense.
Five Rockets achieved double-digit scoring, spearheaded by Amen Thompson. The dynamic young player amassed 25 points, secured six rebounds, and contributed three assists, dictating the tempo for the win.
Dillon Brooks tallied 24 points, while Alperen Şengün added 15 points and nine rebounds, alongside five assists, significantly impacting the team’s overall effort.
Veteran guard Fred VanVleet delivered a stellar showing, scoring 26 points and providing two assists. His leadership on both ends of the court proved instrumental in the Rockets’ triumph.
“We’ve just got to maintain a light, fresh, and confident approach, understanding that we’ve been playing well,” VanVleet commented post-game. “It’s not as if we were being completely dominated.”
Jalen Green provided 11 points, while Tari Eason and Aaron Holiday offered crucial support from the bench, adding to the balanced team performance.
The Rockets asserted themselves early, outscoring the Warriors in the initial three quarters and establishing a lead that Golden State could not surmount, despite their attempts.
Houston’s defensive strength was apparent, holding the Warriors to 24 points in the first quarter. Their sharp shooting and resolve prevented the Warriors from regaining control.
With the series now favoring the Rockets 3-2, the team aims to maintain their form in Game 6 and vie for a decisive Game 7.
The series continues with Game 6 at Chase Center in San Francisco, where the Rockets will seek to force a series-deciding game.
