Tanvir Ahmed Critiques Shadab Khan’s Captaincy

Former Pakistani fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed has strongly denounced Shadab Khan’s leadership abilities following Islamabad United’s significant 88-run loss to Lahore Qalandars in the 19th match of PSL 10 on Wednesday.

This defeat breaks United’s winning streak of five consecutive victories in the current tournament.

In pursuit of a challenging 210-run target, United’s batting lineup collapsed, managing only 121 runs in 16.5 overs.

During a discussion on a local television channel on Wednesday, Ahmed attributed the defeat to what he perceives as Shadab Khan’s inadequate leadership.

He went as far as to say he doesn’t see Shadab as a genuine captain.

“What exactly transpired? Where was the captaincy we expected?” Tanvir questioned.

Ahmed elaborated, “For me, a true captain is someone who secures victories even when resources are limited, or at least displays resilience in tight situations, regardless of the outcome. That, to me, defines a real captain.”

The 46-year-old further suggested that United’s previous successes were not due to Shadab Khan’s captaincy but rather the strength of the team and its prominent players.

He added, “A captain should inspire the team to compete fiercely, even without star players, something that was missing in this particular match.”

“In my opinion, a legitimate captain leads a team that demonstrates a fighting spirit, no matter the end result,” Ahmed stated.

The former Test cricketer has previously voiced criticism of Shadab’s captaincy, consistently questioning his influence and effectiveness as a leader.

Additionally, he criticized Shadab’s overall performance, claiming he misleads fans by showcasing his all-round capabilities exclusively in league cricket.

Ahmed commented, “Shadab has deceived everyone by batting high in the order, hitting some sixes, and picking up a few wickets in the PSL.”

He added, “He markets himself as a world-class spin-bowling all-rounder, yet consistently underperforms and is exposed when playing internationally.”

“His success in franchise leagues does not translate into accomplishments for the national team.”
