Clark’s Last-Ball Six Seals Superchargers’ Thrilling Win
SOUTHAMPTON: Graham Clark held his composure to hit Tymal Mills for a crucial six on the final ball, securing a captivating three-wicket victory for Northern Superchargers against Southern Braves in the 11th match of The Hundred at The Rose Bowl on Wednesday.
With 10 runs needed from the last five balls, skipper James Vince entrusted Mills with the decisive over.
The left-arm seamer initially conceded only five runs from the first four deliveries, despite a boundary on the 97th ball, leaving five runs required from the final delivery.
Clark then expertly dispatched a slower ball outside off over the leg side for a match-winning six, guiding the Superchargers to a remarkable victory.
The right-handed batsman was the Superchargers’ leading scorer in the tense chase, finishing with an unbeaten 38 off 24 balls, including three fours and a six.
Opening batsman Zak Crawley (29), captain Harry Brook, and Mitchell Santner (24 each) also made significant contributions for the Superchargers.
Craig Overton was the pick of the bowlers for the Braves, claiming three wickets, while Jofra Archer and Mills each took two.
Earlier, after being put in to bat, the Braves posted a total of 139/5 in their 100 balls, largely thanks to Laurie Evans’s half-century.
The wicketkeeper-batsman top-scored for the Braves with 53 off 34 balls, featuring six fours and two sixes. He was supported by James Coles, who contributed an unbeaten 49 off 36 balls, including three fours and a six.
Evans and Coles combined for a vital 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket after Duffy had dismantled the top order, removing Leus du Plooy (0), James Vince (6), and Jason Roy (11) to leave them struggling at 26/3 in 24 balls.
The partnership ended on the 81st ball when Evans was dismissed by Mitchell Santner.
Santner further hampered the Brave’s innings by dismissing Hilton Cartwright (1) shortly after.
Michael Bracewell then joined Coles for an unbroken 24-run partnership, helping the Braves reach 139/5.
Duffy was the most successful bowler for the Superchargers, taking three wickets, with Santner providing valuable support with two wickets.
This victory lifts Northern Superchargers to fourth place in The Hundred standings with eight points from three matches, while Southern Brave remain third with a similar record but a slightly better net run rate.
