Wiese Succeeds Faf du Plessis as St Lucia Kings Captain
ST LUCIA: David Wiese, the Namibian all-rounder and Lahore Qalandars standout, has been appointed as the captain of the St Lucia Kings for the forthcoming 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season, the franchise revealed on Wednesday.
Wiese assumes the leadership position from Faf du Plessis, the celebrated former South African batter, who guided the Kings to their first-ever CPL title in 2024.
Du Plessis’ decision to withdraw from this year’s competition due to personal commitments paved the way for the franchise to promote Wiese as their captain, entrusting him with the responsibility of defending their title.
Since joining the St Lucia Kings in 2021, the experienced 40-year-old all-rounder has been an essential component of the team.
Throughout his CPL tenure with the Kings, Wiese has participated in 26 games, amassing 338 runs in 20 innings and securing 36 wickets.
His extensive experience and well-rounded skills position him ideally to lead the team during the highly anticipated 2025 season.
Under Wiese’s leadership, the Kings will commence their CPL 2025 journey against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on Monday, August 18, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
Following their inaugural match, the Kings are set to clash with the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the sixth match of the tournament at Warner Park, St Kitts, shortly thereafter.
Wiese has featured in 53 games for the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to date, playing a vital role for the franchise since 2018.
He has delivered numerous significant and game-changing performances, accumulating 1,253 runs and claiming 38 wickets thus far.
Notably, the St Lucia Kings enter the competition as the reigning CPL champions.
