Sri Lanka Announces Squad for Women’s ODI World Cup
Sri Lanka has revealed its 15-member team for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, scheduled to commence on September 30. Veteran left-arm pacer Udeshika Prabodhani returns to the squad following a nearly year-long absence due to injury.
Batter Imesha Dulani, who was previously omitted for the home tri-series against India and South Africa earlier this year, also rejoins the team.
Teenage players Rashmika Sewwandi and Manudi Nanayakkara, along with batter Hansima Karunaratne and spinner Inoshi Fernando, have been excluded from the squad.
Prabodhani, 39, last played for Sri Lanka in the Women’s T20 World Cup in October of the previous year and has not participated in an ODI since the tour of Ireland in August 2024.
Her recovery from a persistent hamstring injury is anticipated to bolster Sri Lanka’s pace attack, complementing Achini Kulasuriya, 35, and Malki Madara, 24.
Dulani, 23, takes the place of 17-year-old Nanayakkara and is expected to be a reserve batter.
The team is captained by Chamari Athapaththu and features a stable batting lineup including Hasini Perera, Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kavisha Dilhari, Nilakshi de Silva, Piumi Wathsala, and Anushka Sanjeewani.
Despite Inoshi’s omission, Sri Lanka maintains robust spin options with Dewmi Vihanga, Inoka Ranaweera, and Sugandika Kumari, in addition to all-rounders Athapaththu and Dilhari.
Sri Lanka will begin their World Cup journey against India in Guwahati on September 30.
The team will then compete in four matches in Colombo before traveling to Navi Mumbai to face Bangladesh. They will conclude their league matches against Pakistan at home.
