Stuart Broad Joins South Africa as Consultant for WTC Final

Former England pace bowler Stuart Broad is set to collaborate with the South African team as a consultant, aiding their preparations for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia on June 11.

This engagement represents Broad’s initial foray into coaching since his retirement from international cricket in 2023.

The 38-year-old is scheduled to attend the Proteas’ training session at Lord’s on June 9, where he will offer his expertise as Temba Bavuma’s squad seeks to challenge the reigning champions, Australia.

Broad, who amassed 604 wickets in 167 Test matches—second only to James Anderson on England’s all-time list—holds an impressive record against Australia, having claimed 153 wickets, the highest by any bowler in Test matches against the Aussies. He also performed exceptionally at Lord’s, securing 113 wickets in 28 Tests.

The South African team has already convened in the UK and will play against Zimbabwe at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground in Sussex starting Tuesday as part of their preparations for the final.

Australia, the current World Test Championship titleholders, earned their victory by defeating India at The Oval in 2023.

South Africa’s WTC journey comprised 12 Test matches, during which they secured eight victories. Following a drawn home series against India (1-1) and a 2-0 defeat in New Zealand, they demonstrated resilience with series wins over the West Indies (1-0), Bangladesh (2-0), Sri Lanka (2-0), and Pakistan (2-0).
