Seattle Sounders Triumph Over Inter Miami in Leagues Cup Final

Alex Roldan’s exceptional performance, featuring two assists and a penalty conversion, propelled the Seattle Sounders to a 3-0 victory over Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in the 2025 Leagues Cup final on Sunday night.

The contest concluded amidst a skirmish involving players from both sides. Miami’s Luis Suarez was reportedly seen spitting at a member of Seattle’s personnel after the game as the situation calmed.

Miami’s goalkeeper, Oscar Ustari, intervened to separate Suarez and the staff member.

Seattle Sounders’ coach, Brian Schmetzer, voiced his concern that the post-match altercation overshadowed his team’s outstanding display.

“Regrettably, the focus will shift away from the Seattle Sounders’ excellent performance,” Schmetzer stated.

“Their players felt frustrated, which resulted in inappropriate actions on the field.

“I want to address this promptly because it shouldn’t be the main topic. The real story is not the post-game events. I shared a quiet moment with Messi on the field afterward, where we spoke and attempted to move past it.

“That is the narrative.”

Roldan proved pivotal for Seattle in the final, setting up Osaze De Rosario’s opening goal in the 26th minute, securing their initial lead and their second Concacaf title.

Roldan extended the advantage with a penalty in the 84th minute, followed by Paul Rothrock’s final goal just five minutes later.

This marked Miami’s third attempt to capture a significant trophy since Messi joined the team in the summer of 2023 and their second Leagues Cup trophy after their 2023 victory.

Despite the loss, the Herons have secured a Concacaf spot for the upcoming year, although they will commence in the first round unless they secure the 2025 MLS Cup.
