Muller Nets Stoppage-Time Penalty for Vancouver; Son Scores First MLS Goal

Son Heung-min, along with former Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller, both celebrated their inaugural goals in Major League Soccer this past Saturday.

Son Heung-min’s Debut Goal

Just six minutes into his second appearance for Los Angeles FC, Son, previously the captain of Tottenham Hotspur, marked his MLS debut with a remarkable free-kick goal.

The 33-year-old South Korean, after a decade in the Premier League, made his move to LAFC earlier this month for a reported fee exceeding £20 million. Despite Son’s early goal, LAFC ultimately drew 1-1 with FC Dallas.

Following the game, Son expressed his happiness at scoring in his first MLS match but conveyed his disappointment with the draw, emphasizing his primary objective of securing three points for the team. He noted that building cohesion with his new teammates will require time but affirmed his enjoyment of the match.

Son’s Post-Match Comments

Son stated, “I’m happy to have scored my first goal for LAFC in the MLS. However, securing three points is what matters most to me, and I am very disappointed that we didn’t achieve that.”

He added, “It will take time to fully integrate with the team. It’s only been a little over two weeks, but I am relishing every moment.”

Muller’s Late Goal

Muller injected late excitement into the game for the Vancouver Whitecaps, converting a penalty in stoppage time to secure a win.

Muller’s Reaction

“Scoring the decisive goal in front of our home fans was an incredible and amazing feeling,” Muller commented.

Both players are already demonstrating their impact, signaling a new chapter for Major League Soccer’s global appeal.
