Amir’s Performance in Vitality Blast 2024 Goes in Vain as Somerset Secures Victory
TAUNTON: Former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir demonstrated a commendable bowling display for Essex in the ongoing Vitality Blast 2024; however, Somerset clinched the win at the Cooper Associates County Ground.
Somerset, after winning the toss and batting first, achieved a strong score of 225-6 in their 20 overs. Tom Kohler-Cadmore was exceptional, hitting 90 runs from just 39 deliveries.
Will Smeed added a swift 32 from 20 balls, while Sean Dickson remained not out with 28. Captain Lewis Gregory and Ben Green also supported with 18 and 13 runs, respectively.
For Essex, Amir stood out, securing 3/22 in his four overs, dismissing key batsmen Gregory, Green, and Tom Banton.
In their chase, Essex were all out for 130 in 14.1 overs.
Noah Thain scored the most runs with 38 off 17 balls, followed by Paul Walter, who scored 24 off 12. Captain Simon Harmer contributed 20 from 15, while Amir managed 5 runs.
Matt Henry spearheaded Somerset’s bowling attack, claiming 4/21, while Riley Meredith and Craig Overton each claimed two wickets.
Following this loss, Essex is positioned at the bottom of the standings, with only one victory out of 11 games. They have suffered nine defeats and have only six points.
Notably, left-arm bowler Amir has taken 15 wickets in 11 games this season, with an economy rate of 9.09.
