Tanvir Lauds Babar, Recalls ‘Classic’ Innings
Sohail Tanvir, the former Test cricketer, acknowledged Babar Azam on Friday as Pakistan cricket’s ‘biggest brand’ and ‘most celebrated star’.
During a discussion on a social platform, Tanvir commended Babar’s widespread appeal, mentioning the palpable excitement among fans in Karachi, Multan, and Rawalpindi whenever he appears.
Tanvir stated, “Babar has cultivated this admiration through years of unwavering commitment and outstanding displays for Pakistan.”
He further commented, “He has elevated Pakistan’s reputation globally, and it’s always gratifying to see him accumulate runs.”
Tanvir specifically highlighted Babar’s recent performance against Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 10 match held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday.
The former fast bowler noted that Babar’s match-winning innings against the Qalandars evoked memories of the ‘classic’ Babar Azam.
“Watching him bat that day felt like witnessing the classic Babar Azam again. His strokes against pace bowlers showcased pure elegance — precisely the shots for which he is renowned.”
During the match, Babar notched a vital 56 runs from 42 deliveries, which included seven boundaries and a six.
The 40-year-old emphasised that the innings was indicative of Babar’s exceptional timing and skill, proposing that he is regaining his top form.
Across five PSL 10 matches, Babar has compiled 105 runs, with his highest score being the aforementioned 56-run innings against the Qalandars.
Sohail Tanvir also commented on the conditions at Gaddafi Stadium, pointing out that the pitch maintains its traditional characteristics.
He explained, “Gaddafi Stadium is known for its slow nature. High pace is rare here, which turns it into a favorable batting surface for players who apply themselves.”
