Mandhana Approaches Milestone as She Surpasses Clark’s Record in Women’s ODIs
VISAKHAPATNAM: Indian batter Smriti Mandhana eclipsed Belinda Clark’s long-standing record for the most runs scored in a calendar year in Women’s ODIs on Thursday.
Mandhana achieved this milestone during India’s ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 match against South Africa at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. She hit Ayabonga Khaka for a six in the eighth over.
Entering the game, Mandhana needed just 11 runs to surpass Clarke’s record of 970 runs, set in 1997. She began the fixture with 959 runs.
The left-handed batter scored 23 runs from 32 balls, including one six and a four, before being dismissed by Nonkululeko Mlaba in the 11th over, securing her place above Clarke in the record books.
Mandhana has accumulated 982 runs in 18 ODIs in 2025, averaging 57.76, with four centuries and three half-centuries. She is close to becoming the first batter to score 1,000 runs in a calendar year in WODIs; she needs 18 more runs to reach the milestone.
