Sinner Solidifies Hard Court Reputation with Beijing Victory

BEIJING: Jannik Sinner reinforced his standing on hard courts by securing a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 triumph against Alex de Minaur at Diamond Court on Tuesday, thus earning a spot in his third consecutive China Open final.

The Italian player, who is the defending champion in Beijing, swiftly gained a 4-2 advantage in the initial set, achieving a break to love and maintaining composure to confidently secure the set.

De Minaur, seeded third, exhibited resilience in the second set, matching Sinner’s intensity to level the match and claim only his second set against the world’s fourth-ranked player.

Despite showing physical fatigue during the second set, Sinner elevated his performance in the decisive set.

He initiated an immediate break and maintained control to reach his seventh consecutive hard court final, extending his winning record over De Minaur to an impressive 11 games.

Sinner, a winner of four Grand Slam titles, now anticipates the outcome of the semi-final clash between American talent Learner Tien and former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev.

Reflecting on his success, Sinner mentioned that both competitors had opportunities, and securing an early break against De Minaur instilled self-assurance.

Sinner remarked, “I thought the standard was very competitive.”
“There were a lot of amazing rallies and opportunities for both participants. I had chances in the second set but couldn’t capitalize on them, while he also had his opportunities. It was a relatively balanced match. I aimed to elevate my performance in the third set.

“Securing an early break provided me with the confidence to serve more effectively. I’m extremely satisfied with today’s outcome. It was a different match than our previous encounters; it was quite closely contested.”

With this recent victory, Sinner is solidifying his reputation as a prominent competitor on hard courts, particularly during the Asian circuit, and continues to be a formidable contender for the title in Beijing.
