Sinner Advances to Italian Open Semi-Final
Jannik Sinner, the world’s top-ranked player, showcased his dominance at the Foro Italico on Thursday, securing a spot in the Italian Open semi-final with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Casper Ruud.
Ruud, fresh off his Madrid victory and considered a formidable opponent, struggled to counter Sinner’s aggressive gameplay.
The match concluded swiftly in just 64 minutes, with Sinner clinching the initial set in a mere 27 minutes, conceding only seven points.
The top-seeded Sinner maintained unwavering control, relinquishing only a single game in the second set and prolonging his unblemished record in Rome without dropping a set. He achieved six breaks of Ruud’s serve throughout the contest.
Despite the one-sided result, Ruud humbly acknowledged Sinner’s exceptional performance.
“That’s nearly perfect play from my rival, in my opinion. In all honesty, the loss doesn’t feel that awful. It was enjoyable, even after a 6-0, 6-1 defeat,” Ruud commented post-match.
Sinner also conveyed his satisfaction with his showing, expressing assurance in his present condition.
“I felt wonderful on the court today,” he stated. “I believe everyone noticed. My feelings today are a promising sign. I was serving effectively, returning strongly, and moving fluidly on the court, which makes me very happy.”
Sinner is set to clash with American Tommy Paul in the semi-final later today.
