Islamabad United Dealt Blow as Matthew Short Excluded from PSL 10

Karachi: Islamabad United faces a significant challenge as they prepare to face Karachi Kings in their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 encounter at the National Bank Cricket Stadium.

Australian all-rounder Matthew Short has been sidelined for the duration of the tournament due to a recurrence of an injury.

United has yet to reveal who will take Short’s place in the squad.

The franchise released a statement on Sunday confirming that Short, despite showing encouraging signs of recovery upon arriving in Pakistan, experienced discomfort during training.

Following a joint medical evaluation by Islamabad United’s medical personnel and Cricket Australia’s staff, the decision was made to withdraw him from the competition to protect his long-term fitness.

“After careful assessment, both medical teams concurred that the optimal course of action was for Matthew Short to return home and continue his rehabilitation under the guidance of Cricket Australia,” the statement explained.

Short, 27, initially suffered the injury during the ICC Champions Trophy earlier in the year. He has since returned to Australia to concentrate on his recovery.

“Islamabad United is dedicated to the health of our players and offers full support to Matt as he recovers,” the franchise stated.

“We appreciate his professionalism and positive attitude within the team and wish him a quick and full recovery,” they added.

Islamabad United currently leads the points table with three wins out of three matches as the tournament advances.

Lahore Qalandars are in second position with two wins and one defeat. Karachi Kings are third, while Quetta Gladiators are currently fourth.
