Shoaib Akhtar Lauds Mohammad Amir, Criticizes PCB’s Player Management
Former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar recently praised Mohammad Amir, calling him one of Pakistan’s best-ever fast bowlers. He also criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its inadequate player management practices.
Akhtar commended Amir, recalling a game against Australia where the left-arm bowler’s swing greatly troubled David Warner.
Akhtar’s Remarks on Amir’s Bowling Prowess
“When Amir bowled, Warner seemed unsure whether to advance or retreat. He struggled to decipher Amir’s swing and pace,” Akhtar mentioned on a social media platform.
“The exceptional quality Amir displayed then remains evident today,” Akhtar remarked.
“Amir stands out as the most intelligent fast bowler we’ve produced. He possesses a strong understanding of field placements and game dynamics, adapting effectively. He is precise in selecting his line and length, adeptly setting the field to enhance his bowling,” he stated.
Amir’s Dedicated Preparation
Akhtar also highlighted Amir’s pre-match routine, noting his disciplined and systematic approach.
“Before each match, Amir consistently bowls three to four overs, meticulously analyzing his bowling during warm-up sessions. He deviates from the team’s general warm-up, adhering to his personalized regimen designed to refine his abilities.”
Concerns Over Talent Management
Describing Mohammad Amir as a valuable asset to Pakistan cricket, Akhtar voiced his concerns about how players like him have been managed.
“The issue isn’t the players; it’s the management. Those who fail to grasp the players’ needs and challenges shouldn’t be in management roles,” he commented.
Echoing Akhtar’s sentiments, former pacer Sohail Tanvir also criticized the ongoing mismanagement within Pakistani cricket.
“Players have frequently lamented the lack of respectful treatment throughout their careers and the denial of proper farewell opportunities. Substantial improvements are necessary in this area,” Tanvir emphasized.
Mohammad Amir is currently participating in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, representing Quetta Gladiators, and has taken six wickets in four games.
