Shadab Blames Fielding for United’s Defeat

LAHORE: Islamabad United’s captain, Shadab Khan, identified fielding mistakes as a major reason for their significant 88-run loss to Lahore Qalandars in the 19th match of PSL 10 at Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.

After being asked to bat first, the Qalandars achieved a formidable score of 209/6 in their allotted 20 overs, supported by strong batting performances across the board.

Fakhar Zaman was the leading scorer for Qalandars with 44 runs from 30 balls, while Sikandar Raza scored 38 and Sam Billings remained unbeaten with 39.

For Islamabad United, Imad Wasim and Jason Holder each claimed two wickets, and Ben Dwarshuis secured one.

In pursuit of the challenging 210-run target, United’s batting lineup collapsed, scoring only 121 runs in 16.5 overs, resulting in the three-time champions’ first defeat in the current PSL 10 season.

Reflecting on the loss, Shadab stated that missed opportunities in the field were costly, especially giving established batsmen additional chances.

Shadab’s Statement

“Our fielding errors really impacted us negatively today, particularly when experienced batsmen were given reprieves. It significantly altered the game’s outcome. Our fielding was definitely below par,” Shadab commented.

The all-rounder also noted the team’s poor batting display, pointing out several instances of soft dismissals.

“As professionals, adaptability is key. When chasing a substantial total, our approach must reflect the magnitude of the task. Regrettably, we had numerous weak dismissals and did not perform to our capabilities.”

“The pitch offered assistance to the fast bowlers initially. Bowling hard lengths was effective early on, but as the ball aged, batting conditions improved. With minimal spin, fast bowlers who targeted the correct areas had a distinct advantage.

Shadab Khan acknowledged that teams inevitably face challenges in tournaments and emphasized their focus on the upcoming match.

“Setbacks are a natural part of tournaments like these. With consecutive matches ahead, we are now directing our attention towards the next game.”
