Sehrish Ali Clinches Gold at US Virginia Gold Circuit
VIRGINIA: Pakistan’s promising squash player, Sehrish Ali, has achieved another milestone by securing a gold medal at the US Virginia Gold Circuit on Monday.
In a gripping final match, Sehrish triumphed over her sister, Mahnoor Ali, in a five-game battle to claim the title. Sehrish won with a score of 3-2, the game scores being 12-10, 11-13, 11-8, 8-11, and 8-11.
While Sehrish earned the gold medal, Mahnoor received the silver, marking a significant achievement for both the family and Pakistan in the sport of squash.
This victory is Sehrish’s third successive gold medal and her 18th overall, underscoring her consistent excellence and influence in squash.
Just last month, Sehrish also won the USA Junior Women’s Gold Squash Championship.
In that final, which took place in New York, Sehrish defeated her sister and top-seeded Mahnoor Ali in straight sets (3-0) in the Girls Under-15 category.
Previously, Mahnoor had defeated Helles Sweet of the USA with a 3-0 victory in the semi-final, and Sehrish advanced to the final after defeating Julie Yee 3-1 in a competitive match.
The sisters had previously impressed at the Australian Junior Women’s Squash Championship in Melbourne.
Mahnoor won the gold medal in the Under-13 event, Sehrish secured silver in the Under-15 final, and their older sister, Mehwish Ali, won gold in the Under-17 category.
