Mariners Advance to ALCS, Set to Clash with Blue Jays

SEATTLE: In a thrilling American League Division Series (ALDS) Game 5, the Seattle Mariners triumphed over the Detroit Tigers with a narrow 3-2 victory. The game, held at T-Mobile Park, concluded dramatically with Jorge Polanco’s single in the 15th inning.

This win propels the Mariners into their first AL Championship Series since 2001, where they will compete against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Polanco, commenting on the team’s crucial victory, emphasized their resilience. He stated that the team possesses the ability to compete under any circumstances, maintaining a steadfast determination.

“We maintain our fighting spirit and never give up, regardless of the length of the game,” Polanco affirmed. “We ensure we are prepared, awaiting the opportune moment. It simply was my time.”

The winning play unfolded after Randy Arozarena was hit by a pitch. Crawford then singled, advancing to third due to a throwing error. Polanco sealed the victory with a line drive into right field off Tommy Kahnle, following an intentional walk to Julio Rodriguez.

Luis Castillo secured the win by pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Earlier, Kerry Carpenter’s two-run homer in the sixth inning put Detroit ahead 2-1. However, Leo Rivas’ RBI single in the eighth provided the Mariners with the lead. Rivas delivered in a pivotal pinch-hit appearance, celebrating his 28th birthday.

Tigers’ pitcher Tarik Skubal delivered an impressive performance, recording 13 strikeouts in six innings, marking seven straight in the postseason. Before his exit in the sixth, George Kirby pitched five scoreless innings for Seattle.
