Pakistan Clinches Victory Against Bangladesh in First T20I
LAHORE: In a thrilling encounter at Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday, Pakistan secured a convincing 37-run win against Bangladesh in the opening T20I of the three-match series. Captain Salman Ali Agha attributed the victory to a strong team performance.
After electing to bat, Pakistan recovered from an early setback, collapsing to 5/2 in the second over, to post a formidable 201/7. Agha led the charge with a blistering 56 off 34 balls, including eight boundaries and a six.
Mohammad Haris (31), Hasan Nawaz (44), and Shadab Khan (48) also played crucial knocks to propel Pakistan beyond the 200-run mark.
Bangladesh, in their chase, were eventually bowled out for 164 in 19.2 overs, despite a fighting 48 from Litton Das.
Pacer Hasan Ali spearheaded Pakistan’s bowling attack, claiming his first-ever five-wicket haul in T20Is.
Agha praised the batting unit for their resilience in surpassing 200 runs after the poor start. He emphasized the importance of all-round performances.
Key Quotes from Captain Agha:
- “It was remarkable to see everyone contribute and reach 200-plus after being 5/2.”
- “This demonstrates the kind of team effort we are aiming for – excelling across all departments. We encourage players to be confident and seize opportunities.”
Agha was particularly impressed with Hasan Ali’s bowling, noting that his performance evoked memories of his successful form in 2017, when Pakistan won the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy.
“Hasan Ali was outstanding, reminiscent of his bowling back in 2017. His dedication is showing results, initially in the PSL and now here,” Agha mentioned.
When asked about the abundance of all-rounders in the team, Agha highlighted the advantage it provides, giving him a plethora of options. “Our all-rounders are a significant asset. Even Saim Ayub is capable of bowling his complete quota of four overs. With numerous quality all-rounders, we are in a strong position. We will take a rest day tomorrow and prepare for the second game.”
