Siraj Concludes Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy as Top Wicket-Taker with 23 Dismissals

India’s legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar has lauded right-arm fast bowler Mohammed Siraj for his consistent and impactful performances during the Test series against England, which ended in a draw.

In the five-match series, Siraj surpassed India’s leading pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah, securing the highest number of wickets with 23 in nine innings, averaging 32.43.

Notably, he was the only fast bowler from either side to participate in all five Test matches.

Siraj’s most remarkable display occurred in the fifth Test’s second innings, where he achieved a five-wicket haul, propelling India to a thrilling six-run victory – their narrowest win in the Test format.

His exceptional bowling in the second innings earned him the Player of the Match award, while his captain, Shubman Gill, was honored with the Player of the Series title.

Sachin Tendulkar also acknowledged Siraj’s unwavering performance throughout the series, expressing admiration for his strategy and mindset, while noting that he often goes without sufficient recognition.

“Incredible. Fantastic approach. I admire his spirit. I appreciate the energy in his strides,” Tendulkar stated.

“No batsman appreciates a fast bowler who is constantly aggressive like that. Even on the final day, he maintained a speed of around 90mph (145kph) after bowling over 1000 deliveries in the series, as commentators noted. This highlights his bravery and immense heart.

“His start on the last day was truly impressive. He has consistently played a crucial role, delivering whenever we need a decisive blow. His ability to take wickets and perform under pressure has been consistent, and this series was no exception. He deserves more recognition for his contributions and performance.”
