Sabalenka Extends Lead as World No. 1 in WTA Rankings
Aryna Sabalenka has solidified her position as the world’s top-ranked female tennis player, increasing her lead over Iga Swiatek of Poland in the latest WTA Rankings. Meanwhile, Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia has made a return to the top 20.
Following her runner-up finish at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Sabalenka’s points total has risen from 10,541 to 10,768. This marks her fourth time as a runner-up at the Stuttgart event.
Sabalenka is currently in her 35th week as the world’s number one player, and her significant 3,385-point advantage over second-ranked Swiatek suggests she is likely to remain at the top for some time.
Swiatek experienced a drop in points after her quarter-final exit in Stuttgart. She lost 87 points due to her performance, contrasting with her semi-final appearance at the 2024 tournament.
Ostapenko’s impressive run at the WTA 500 clay event saw her defeat Swiatek in the quarter-finals and Sabalenka in the final, ultimately securing the title.
Conversely, Elena Rybakina slipped from 10th to 11th place after an unsuccessful title defense at the Stuttgart Open, resulting in a loss of 500 points.
Despite a second-round defeat to Ostapenko in Stuttgart, Emma Navarro re-entered the top 20.
Elina Svitolina moved up one spot to become world No. 17 after claiming her 18th WTA Tour title at the 250 tournament in Rouen.
Olga Danilovic, who was defeated by Svitolina in the Rouen final, made a significant jump of five places to reach a new career-high ranking of 34th.
Marta Kostyuk, the runner-up from the previous year’s edition, dropped from 36th to 25th after not competing last week.
