Sabalenka Set to Clash with Raducanu in Cincinnati Open Round of 32

World number one Aryna Sabalenka delivered a strong performance at the Cincinnati Open, securing a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Czech player Marketa Vondrousova in her initial match. Sabalenka overcame 12 break points at the Centre Court to prevail on Saturday.

Sabalenka defeated the 2023 Wimbledon champion under the stadium lights.

Displaying exceptional skill, Sabalenka dominated from the beginning, concluding the first set with a two-game advantage.

Despite the scoreline, the second set presented challenges. She successfully defended five break points to establish a 4-1 lead and recovered from a 0-30 deficit in the final game to clinch the win.

Reflecting on her victory, Sabalenka noted her extensive match experience this season, which has honed her ability to manage crucial moments effectively. She emphasized her confidence in executing decisions without hesitation.

Aryna Sabalenka’s Quote:

“Having played numerous matches this season, I feel well-prepared to navigate critical junctures,” Sabalenka stated. “The key for me is to commit fully without questioning my choices, and this strategy has proven successful.”
Last month, the world’s top-ranked player opted to withdraw from the US Open warm-up event in Montreal due to exhaustion.

The Belarusian athlete’s choice to skip the Canadian Open, held from July 26 to August 7, followed her semi-final appearances at both Wimbledon and Berlin, in addition to a runner-up finish at the French Open.

Sabalenka is now scheduled to compete against Emma Raducanu in the round of 32 on Sunday.
